Before your installer arrives
please have areas where new flooring will be installed clear of all
furniture/appliances. If you made arrangements at time of purchase to
have your installer move and replace furniture/appliances you should have
refrigerators, freezers, bookcases and cabinets empty. You must
disconnect and move any computer or electronic equipment, empty and refill
fish tanks and waterbed mattresses and move delicate, breakable objects.
Extra charges apply if installer are required to move pool tables, pianos,
bath stools, heavy objects, kitchen islands or items that must be dismantled.
|
 |
Remove all old carpet and
padding before your installer arrives unless you made arrangements to have
your installer remove it for you. Existing tack strip should be left in
place if you are installing pad under your new carpet. If your new
carpet is to be glued down the strip should be removed. Pad staples and
old carpet edge guards should be removed and the area should be thoroughly
vacuumed.
|
 |
Installers performing appliance
moving services will reconnect water lines, but cannot be held responsible
should leaks occur or for the operation of the appliance. Any gas
appliance with a shutoff valve can be disconnected and moved/replaced but
installers are prohibited from reconnecting the gas line.
|
 |
Stools must be removed if
vinyl, tile or wood flooring is being installed in the bath area. Stools
must be secured in place if carpet is being installed. Installers may
have to remove interior doors and will re-hang them if possible. It is
your responsibility to trim doors and re-hang if re-sizing is necessary.
Installers will not remove old floor coverings or scraps from the job site but
will place them wherever you designate on the job site.
|
 |
There must be heat in the
installation area a minimum of 24 hours prior to any installation (wood
flooring requires 7 days). Electrical connections and lighting must be
available to installers.
|
 |
Shoe moldings (quarter round)
will be removed/replaced during a hard surface installation but installers
cannot be held responsible for breakage. Installers will not remove
baseboard. Your must remove/replace any baseboard if you prefer to have
the flooring edge underneath. If hard surface flooring is finished flush
to baseboard it is your responsibility to install shoe molding or other edge
covering over the flooring edge.
|
 |
The abrasive backing on carpet
occasionally causes scratching or scraping of baseboard finish during an
installation. If customer furnishes paint or stain the installer will
"touch up" the damaged area. Installers will not remove baseboard.
Your must remove/replace any baseboard or other trims if you prefer to be
assured no damage will occur.

 |
Activate the fan on your
heating/air-conditioning system when the installer arrives and continue to
operate it for 24 hours to filter air-borne fiber and odor particles.
AFTER INSTALLATION
RECOMMENDATIONS
|
 |
Vacuum carpet immediately with
a "rotating head/beater brush" vacuum to remove loose fibers and raise the
pile. Do not vacuum directly across carpet seams as this may tend to
separate the tufts and make the seams more visible (vacuum at angles across
the seam). It is essential to vacuum on a regular basis.
|
 |
If a "new carpet odor" is
noticed to ventilate the area with fresh air. Most carpet emissions are
substantially reduced within 72 hours. Individuals who are allergy prone
or sensitive to chemical odors should avoid the area. Should continued
or any unusual or severe symptoms be experienced notify your physician and
contact the air quality program specialist at the Carpet & Rug Institute
(800-882-8846).
